Lesser Whistling DucksThe Lesser Whistling Ducks is a small whistling duck which breeds in most of southeast Asia. It is also called as the Indian Whistling duck. Found in freshwater lakes, the birds are largely vegetarian, the birds eat seeds and other vegetation. Can also prey on snails and small fish. Often seen perched on trees giving way to its alternate name of Tree Duck. Has a long grey bill, long head and longish legs. The back and wings are grey with chestnut patches on wings and tail. Saw these birds on the banks of Kabini on the Bandipur National Park side. |
