Laughing Dove

Laughing Dove or the Little Brown Dove is a breeding resident spread from the tropics of Africa, the middle East to India. It is a long slim, pigeon about 25cms in length. Back, Wings and tail are reddish brown in color. Head and underparts are pinkish with the shading paling to whitish on the lower abdomen. It has red legs and has blue-grey shading in the wings. There are dark black spots on the throat.

The Little Brown Dove is generally found alone or in pairs. They forage on grasslands and on cultivation. They eat grass, seeds, grains other vegetarian stuff and also insects.

I saw this bird during a trip to Kollegal, through the Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve.
