Found in wetlands with trees. Mostly silent , indulging in mutual bill clattering when adults meet. The stork is a broad winged soaring bird which moves between thermals of hot air for long distance flight. A large bird about 85 cms long, all black except for the woolly white neck and underbelly. The upper parts are glossy green while the belly and breast are of a purple hue. The Wooly necked stork walks slowly on the ground seeking prey which consists of amphibians , small reptiles and insects. Saw this bird at Periyar Tiger Reserve.
